Sallie's tough moment

We've known Sallie Toussaint since she was just a kid. A beautiful kid.

We've watched with delight as she moved up through the pageant world. She has competed in the Miss USA Pageant and the Miss World Pageant, just to name two famous ones.

Through it all, she has remained the same sweet but saucy girl we adored at first acquaintance.

This should be her shining moment. Her big Hollywood break, "The Departed," is up for the highest honors in the movie world. And Sallie herself has other things in store for the world (some of which PNB can't announce yet).

But somebody wants to spoil it for her. Perhaps you've heard. An obsessed character impersonating an FBI agent is stalking her in New York. At times he has gotten fairly close. It's a brush with the scary side of life for a girl who has always looked on the bright side.

Nobody deserves this, and certainly not Sallie.

But we know this girl better than any confused admirer will ever know her. She's a survivor, a winner, a star who's still climbing in the firmament of fame.

We thought about saying nothing when we heard the disquieting news. But that is not the PNB way.

If ever there was a time to speak up, it's now. Pardon us for the simple sentiments, but we've got to say it: Don't mess with our Sallie.
