Sallie at the ball

Monaco is one perfect carat of a country, a tiny treasure. An almost microscopic nation that has outlasted great empires. (Size doesn't always matter.)

Some people think of this south European principality as just a place for glitzy fun, but they're wrong. Monegasques have big hearts.

One example of this altruistic spirit is the Monaco Red Cross Ball, which attracts the high-bred, the high rollers and the beautiful people. We mean the real beautiful people, the kind who are almost dangerously diverting. We mean beauty queens.

Three of the choicest beauty queens of modern times co-hosted the ball in 2003.

One was Diana Hayden, the very elegant former Miss World. Another was Elodie Gossuin, the very feminine former Miss France. And Sallie made three.

Sallie Toussaint. Sexy, sassy Sallie. Veteran of some of the world's top pageants. Hopelessly delicious PNB cover girl. You gotta love Sallie. And if you say you hate her, it means you envy her like crazy.

Sorry, folks, on the subject of Sallie, we can't be dispassionate. She's not just sweet and sexy, she's a pal.

We should have said more about the ball. People had fun. A lot of money was raised. Prince Albert was there. (He's a true gentleman.) Forgive us for getting carried away. But don't blame Sallie.

Give to the Red Cross.
