The Miss America Organization announced on Oct. 20, 2004, that ABC-TV had opted out of its contract to broadcast the pageant in September. TV ratings have been declining for years for what was once one of the nation's most popular shows, and the September 2004 program was the least watched ever. Now, for the first time in the pageant's 50-year broadcast history, it has no network outlet. Pageant officials played the announcement as good news, saying they now have freedom to pursue other options. But many fans of the event expressed dismay, saying the pageant has reached a perilous moment. PNB has been preparing a major story about the troubles at the most recent Miss America Pageant. It will be running in late October 2004. Nancy Randall of Chicago has been crowned 2004 US Miss World in Texas. She will represent the United States at the Miss World Pageant in Sanya, China. The Miss Jeffersontown Scholarship Pageant can boast of having produced more Miss Kentucky winners than any other local preliminary in the commonwealth. Kelsy Brown of Wood River was crowned Miss Nebraska Teen USA 2005 on Oct. 3, 2004. Jana Murrell of Omaha was crowned Miss Nebraska USA 2005. Ms. Brown also won the Teen Photogenic award.
