Americans have always been a restless people. They like to pull up stakes, follow the sun and reinvent themselves. Daniel Boone headed west and made a new life; so did Ronald Reagan.

Beauty queens are as mobile as other Americans. And they often have another incentive besides wanderlust. They want to turn their beauty into fame and fortune.

Lindy Christopher of Indiana is one of these. At age 18, after finishing her reign as Ms. Petite Teen Universal, she went to Louisville, Ky., and won the Louisville regional Hooters bikini competition. That assured her a berth in the in the international competition in Las Vegas in late June 2001.

But she's going much farther than Kentucky, even farther than Vegas. Lindy Christopher is moving to Southern California. She wants to break into show business.

Does she think it will be easy? No. Even though she's beautiful, articulate and sexy, she knows the odds. There are beautiful, articulate, sexy girls waiting tables all over L.A.

Still, she's ready to take her chances. We like to call her Lucky Lindy. Yes, we know the original Lucky Lindy was a man, and he flew east, not west. But he had a lot of people rooting for him, and so does this beauty from Indiana.
