Girls, gowns and PNB

A market show for apparel is a banquet for the eyes. In the words of PNB's Gerdeen Dyer, it's "like a cross between a medieval fair and an imperial ball." Another pageant.com writer compared it to "the backlot of MGM during the Golden Age of Hollywood."

That's the way it always looks at mid-August at AmericasMart-Atlanta. Beautiful women are everywhere, clad in opulent clothes of every imaginable hue. Some are busy modeling. Some are scurrying to change costumes. Some are on break, lounging quietly, talking among themselves or chatting on cellphones.

The designers and the dealmakers are there, too. It's really their show. But as important as they are, they are overshadowed by the beautiful models and the designers' own stunning creations.
Johnathan Kayne with Hillary Raines
Up-and-coming gown designer Johnathan Kayne of Norman, Okla., stopped long enough to pose for a picture with Hillary Raines, who was about to give up her crown as Miss Teen Dream Girl America, will be competing in the 2007 Miss Georgia Teen USA Pageant.
Elizabeth Wilson
The lady in red ... Elizabeth Wilson, Miss Teen United States (and PNB cover girl), is pictured here in a Wow!Prom design.
But PNB, of course, with its ability to look beyond the surface and find the heart of every story, will never neglect these creative luminaries. Or as the boss said when he assigned a crack team to roam the mart: "I want to see not just the faces and bodies of glamour, but the minds that energize the entire scene."

At PNB, we always give genius its due.
