A queen on campus

In July 2006, Elizabeth Wilson won the Miss Teen United States crown. In August 2006, she headed off to college. That's one busy summer, even for an energetic beauty like her, but she wouldn't have missed a moment.

PNB caught up with her after her first week at a large, historic university, and the first thing we asked was what she was learning. "I'm learning to do my own laundry," she said. Her voice sounded a bit husky ("I've been using it a lot"), but that sense of humor was as delicious as ever.

She was getting ready to leave campus for the weekend, but not to rest. She had a modeling gig in a big city an hour down the road. When you look like this, people are always waiting for the next time they see you.

It surprised us to find out that she's edging away from her previous plans to be a broadcast journalist. She has a face made for the screen, and there's no one we'd rather have tell us about the sorry state of the world than this dark-haired queen.

Right now, Ms. Wilson is still taking general courses. That's how you start college in America. If we could make a suggestion (and there's no reason we should), we think her university ought to offer a course in Shakespeare's Sonnets. And when they get to the part about the Dark Lady, that mysterious beauty, they need to point to her modern equivalent -- Elizabeth Wilson.

Who knows how many poems could start right then and there?
