PNB interview, take 2:Carol Grow talks | ![]() |
| PNB: Carol, let’s change directions a little bit. You grew up in Kansas. How have those Midwestern roots affected your life and career now that you spend a lot of time in Los Angeles? CG: I’m still close to my family and having a good strong foundation no matter where you grew up is essential to helping you stay grounded no matter what you’re doing. Staying grounded, knowing yourself, knowing what you like and what you don’t like, what you will accept, what’s not acceptable is essential in finding your place in this career because there are a lot of gray areas. Sometimes you wonder if this would be the right thing to do or not the right thing to do. It’s important that you listen to your gut and know what your values and your morals have been your entire life. You have to draw upon that when you make important decisions. PNB: How about spiritually? CG: I am an absolutely grounded person. Absolutely. I have a relationship with God. I am a Christian. I don’t go out and preach to other girls that you need to be a Christian, but a strong spirituality, being grounded, knowing yourself, and treating other people the way you want to be treated are really important to me. I treat other people the way that I want to be treated so that I can lay down at night and have a good night’s rest knowing that I did everything I could that day to help promote myself and not step on somebody else’s face to get to the top. I don’t want to get to the top of the mountain and look down at the bottom of my shoe and see someone else’s face there. |
![]() | PNB: As we near the anniversary of Sept. 11, what effect has that event had on your life? CG: It was a little bit nerve-racking for a lot of reasons. Our country was dismantled for a few weeks after Sept. 11, especially traveling and the economy. I was in Los Angeles. My home is in Florida. Luckily, I was staying with one of my very best friends. I was at her house in Los Angeles and that made me feel more secure, but I was stranded in California. I couldn’t get back to Florida. I didn’t know when I was going to feel comfortable enough to fly, but I flew the first available day that I could fly back. |
| It was a little eerie getting on an airplane with one other passenger and the pilot. I will be flying on the anniversary, which is something to think about. I’m probably going to have a nervous feeling that day, however, it hasn’t slowed my travels down at all this year. The day we started bombing over in Afghanistan, I was flying to Curacao. That was a little nerve-racking because I was traveling internationally that afternoon, and we could only get CNN, so all we could hear were the reports on the bombing and the invasion. That was a little crazy. |
PNB: How do you think our country should commemorate the anniversary of Sept. 11? CG: It’s affected people in different ways depending upon where you live whether you are in New York or L.A. or the Midwest. Everyone is going to have a different way of mourning. First and foremost, without uniting, we have absolutely nothing to gain. We must share the same goals for our country in order to live in peace. If we don’t unite, we won’t live in peace because there is strength in numbers. | ![]() |
This is not something that is going to be solved overnight. It’s really hard to find a solution for this crisis because it is rooted in religion and land. We must be steadfast and stay strong together to keep our freedom. In my opinion, I would rather die fighting than on my knees. PNB: Carol, what do you see in your future? What are your hopes and dreams? CG: I am married. I don’t have any children. I have a cat that runs our house. In ten years, I hope that I have children and a happy home, but right now, I’m concentrating on my career. I’m flipping back and forth from California to Florida trying to manage my career in both places. I’m hoping to do more television and film work. I enjoy modeling. Love it. Been blessed by it. Want to continue to do it, but doing more television work is definitely my immediate goal. Doing films would be sensational and having my own sitcom and being a comedic sitcom actor would just be the ultimate. PNB: Is there anything in the works? CG: I’d rather not say because there are some negotiations going on and some meetings that I’ve been a part of. Right now, you can find me on TNN’s "Robot Wars" Saturday nights. |
